Summary Edit

As many canonites know, the initial release of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan omitted the Roman numerals from the main title. What has never been generally revealed -and what you now must be told- is that the film originally bore the title Kahn! This was because the original shooting script for TOS: "Fine Corinthian Leather" called for Khan to be spelled K-A-H-N. It was only in subsequent reference materials that the genetically-superior Sikh's name appear as "Khan". Canonites, well known for their slavish attention to details chronicled in secondary sources (see this discussion and this one for examples), adopted the spelling found in The Making of... and the Compendium without even considering looking at the script.

Sadly, the artist who executed the main title for Star Trek II was fired at the behest of a Mammoth Studios functionary who was secretly a canonotite. An enormous conspiracy was hatched to protect those sources deemed sancrosanct by Landru, despite his earlier approval of primary sources and other licensed materials {see, e.g., Three Nacelles Are, Too, Canon).
